Youth Coordinator and Sexual Health Counselor, GALAEI

POSITION: Full-time (35 hours weekly, some evenings and weekends.) with benefits.

FUNCTION: The Coordinator is responsible for providing individual, and group support to LGBTQ Latino youth between the ages of 13-24. The Coordinator will work with youth one-on-one and in small and large groups. The Coordinator will provide sexual health workshops to youth and LGBT-sensitivity workshops to service-providers. S/he is chiefly responsible for program implementation an oversight in achieving program deliverables, including data collection, tracking, and reporting. The Coordinator also provides sexual health counseling including HIV/STD testing, linkage to care, and emotional support for newly diagnosed clients. The Coordinator also supports the BSeen!BHeard! youth leadership board, primarily in the creation of Annual Alternative Prom for queer and allied youth. The Coordinator is part of the GALAEI team and shares in the responsibility of conducting ongoing outreach via street and clubs, as well as social media.

Major Responsibilities
• Provide individual counseling to Latino LGBT youth on various sexuality related issues, such as coming out, dating, healthy
relationships, and having a healthy sexual life;
• Provide LGBT sensitivity training to youth-serving providers and sexual health workshops to youth;
• Facilitate Outlet support groups for Latino LGBTQ youth;
• Provide sexual health counseling to clients including HIV/STD testing and related linkage to care;
• Maintain individual client charts including documentation of all delivered services;
• Responsible for data tracking, data entry, and data reporting on monthly and quarterly basis;
• Develop youth-focused educational materials in English and Spanish;
• Conduct Internet, street, and venue-based outreach during day, evening, late night, and weekend hours;
• Utilize creative methods for retaining and engaging clients in conversations about HIV risk-reduction;
• Create and maintain Annual Program Work Plan and Quarterly Individual Work Plan with support from Supervisor;
• Maintaining schedule via Google Calendar;
• Represent and advocate for LGBTQ youth at community-based organizations, especially those serving Latino and LGBTQ youth.
• Encourage involvement of clients in other community activities to promote understanding of HIV prevention, community stability, and affirmative lifestyle choices;
• Participate in agency activities such as weekly supervision, biweekly staff meetings, and mandatory community events (Sunday Out, Pride, and Outfest); and
• Other duties as assigned.

Major Qualifications & Skills
• Bilingual/bicultural strongly preferred
• Ideal candidate will have minimum of Associates Degree and will already be certified by AACO in Regional HIV Prevention and CTR
• Experience working with LGBTQ youth of color highly desirable
• Knowledge of HIV transmission and psychosocial issues related to youth risk behavior including sexual and substance abuse
• Knowledge of sexuality, homophobia, gender identity and expression and other issues relating to LGBT youth – as well as how these issues impact the overall development of youth
• Must be able to work with diverse populations of people and provide effective outreach to the target population
• Must be able to work as part of a team, demonstrate mutual respect for co-workers, and be committed to working from a sex positive and harm-reduction perspective
• Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to facilitate groups
• Must be highly organized, able to work under pressure, dynamic, creative, and self-motivated Attention to detail and ability to take initiative in carrying out tasks to conclusion
• Must be experienced with Microsoft Office and Internet
