Sign On To Protect The Clean Air Act
Posted by on October 25, 2002
The state Public Interest Research Groups (the state PIRGs) are working on a campaign to stop the rollback of some of our key environmental protections at the federal level. For example, the New Source Review insures that the oldest and dirtiest power plants must meet new standards. But the Bush administration recently proposed weakening the Clean Air Act to allow these plants to be permanently exempted from these standards. Environmental champions in the Senate are working to stop these attacks.
Right now, the State PIRGs, a nation-wide network of state-based public interest advocacy groups including PennPIRG, are asking faculty members across the country to sign letters urging their Senators to protect the Clean Air Act. In Pennsylvania, we’re sending letters to Senator Specter. As respected members of the academic community, your endorsement will help us show broad public support for a strong Clean Air Act.
If you would like to show your support, e-mail me at janewong@pirg.org. I have a letter and endorsement form that you can quickly sign and return to me, and also lists other options for you to get involved. For more information about the campaign, go to http://www.cleanairnow.org.
