American Psychiatric Foundation Offers Grants for Mental Illness Public Education and Outreach
Deadline: September 1, 2006
The American Psychiatric Foundation (<a href="http://www.psychfoundation.org/">http://www.psychfoundation.org/</a>), a charitable and educational subsidiary of the American Psychiatric Association (<a href="http://www.psych.org/">http://www.psych.org/</a>), is making up to $750,000 in total grant funds available over the course of three years (2005-07) to fund public education, information, and outreach initiatives that promote the early recognition and treatment of mental illness.
The foundation seeks to fund new and innovative ideas and programs that promote public awareness of mental illness, the effectiveness of treatment, and the importance of early intervention.
To be eligible, organizations must have been in existence for at least two years and be tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. APA district branches/state associations are also eligible. Organizations need not be mental health programs. Grants may be sought for new initiatives or the expansion of current programs. Requests must be for educational, informational, or outreach efforts targeting the public. Efforts may focus on a specific mental disorder, mental illness in general, or target a specific population.
Visit the foundation’s Web site for complete program information and application procedures.
