Applications Invited for John Glenn Scholars in Service-Learning Program
Deadline: March 12, 2004

With support from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public Policy (<a href="http://www.glenninstitute.org/">http://www.glenninstitute.org/</a>) at Ohio State University has established the John Glenn Scholars in Service-Learning program. The institute will recognize twenty-five scholars — five during the first year and ten during each of two succeeding years — whose scholarship contributes to advancing the understanding of or adoption of service-learning, with specific emphasis on K-12 education.

The institute seeks contributions from scholars whose work addresses gaps in service-learning research. Areas of emphasis will change from year to year and will reflect emergent issues and priorities. Areas of emphasis for the March 12, 2004, deadline are: 1) teacher education; and 2) rising scholars (an open topic related to K-12 education, undergraduate, or graduate students).

Selection as a scholar will carry an honorarium of $1,000.

Applicants should submit a copy of their curriculum vitae and a copy of a single paper upon which the selection review will be based. Papers may report original research on service-learning; develop teaching, practice, policy, or resource development strategies for service-learning; link service-learning to broader social goals; or otherwise further the adoption of or understanding of service- learning in K-12 schools.
