Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives to Support Employment Programs
Deadline: May 9, 2003
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives (http://www.dol.gov/cfbci/) has announced the Employment and Training Administration’s (ETA) 2003 Solicitations for Grant Applications for Intermediary and Grassroots Faith-Based and Community Organizations.
The program asks applicants to work with the One-Stop Career Center/Workforce Development System to help people find, retain, and advance in employment. The One Stop Career Centers (http://www.servicelocator.org/) are designed to provide individuals with access to employment, education, and training services from different programs at a single location. ETA has made available $3.75 million to invest in new faith-based and community organizations intermediaries. Grants are available in the following two categories:
Grassroots Grants will be awarded to ten to twelve grassroots organizations, with the grant amount for each organization expected to range between $20,000 and $25,000. To be eligible, applicant organizations must have social services as a major part of their mission; be headquartered in the community where their services are provided; and have a total annual operating budget of $300,000 or less, or have six or fewer full-time equivalent employees. The grassroots grantee will identify an unmet community need, the specific population to be served, and the services to be provided. Services might include, but are not limited to, mentoring, job readiness training, pre-/post-placement mentoring, and job translation services. The recipient organizations will be expected to develop new relationships with the One-Stop system and to help those they serve access One-Stop resources. (Deadline: May 9, 2003)
Intermediary Grants will awarded to between seven and twelve intermediary organizations, with the grant amount for each organization expected to range between $300,000 and $500,000. Eligible applicants are nonprofit, faith-based, and community organizations with connections to grassroots, faith-based, and community organizations and a demonstrated ability to connect those organizations to the local workforce investment system. The intermediary grantees will identify a community need and organize collaboration between local faith-based and community organizations and the One-Stop Career Center system to meet that need in the community. (Deadline: May 5, 2003)
Applications can be downloaded at the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives Web site.
