USA Initiative Youth Led Project Grants
Posted by on October 10, 2002
Youth Outreach at the Points of Light Foundation is pleased to announce the availability of mini-grants for youth-led service projects that honor the memory of those lost on September 11th . Made possible by funding from the Gates Foundation, we will offer mini-grants ranging from $250-$500 to youth-led projects supporting the USA initiative. There will be approximately 10-25 mini-grants available; the application deadline is October 31, 2002 . The goal of the mini-grants is to have young people involved not only in the execution of service projects but in the planning stages as well; applications that involve youth in a meaningful way will be given preference. This involvement can include but is not limited to: planning the project, helping to write the grant proposal, and leading the service project. In keeping with the volunteerism spirit of the USA initiative, projects cannot be fundraising efforts. The only exceptions may be projects that raise money for causes that can be identified with specific individuals- for example a walk-a-thon to raise money for AIDS research would be appropriate if done to honor someone active in AIDS-related causes. It is not possible to do any fundraising for September 11th related funds and charities at the request of the Family Advisory Council. All projects need to be planned specifically for the USA initiative and largely completed by May 3, 2003. To receive an application contact Renee Kurth at rkurth@pointsoflight.org or (202) 729-8208.
