National 4-H Council Offers Grants for Youth-Led Programs to Promote Healthy Lifestyles and Fight Hunger
Deadline: Various
The Strategic Initiatives Team of the National 4-H Council (http://www.fourhcouncil.edu/ ) offers grants for U.S. youth at the community, county, and state levels. These grants are designed to provide opportunities for young people and adults to take action on issues critical to their lives, their families, and their communities. Under the terms of the program, youth are expected to take the lead in the design of the project, the proposal writing process, project implementation, and the evaluation of project outcomes.
Proposals are currently being accepted for the following programs:
Healthy Lifestyles Grant: To help communities create educational programs and public awareness around the growing trend of obesity, the National 4-H Council, with funding from Kraft Foods, Inc., will offer local grants up to $8,000 to develop or expand innovative and fun programs that partner youth between the ages of five and twelve with adults to reverse this trend. Applicants must have demonstrated interest and experience in dealing with the issues of obesity, fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyles. (Deadline: November 4, 2002)
Feeding the Hungry Grant: To help communities mobilize young people in the battle against hunger, the National 4-H Council in partnership with Kraft Foods, Inc., offers grants of $500 to $2,500 to teams promoting youth/adult involvement in local food banking, outreach, and public awareness efforts. (Deadline: November 11, 2002)
