The Human Relations & Diversity (HRD) Training & Technical Assistance Project for the Corporation for National and Community Service is pleased to announce the following training opportunities in April 2005 for CNCS grantee project directors, staff, members/volunteers, and community partners. This is the only time this workshop will be offered this year!

Registration will be capped at 25 participants for each workshop. Please don’t delay in securing your spot at one of these events.

National service programs that serve children and youth are ripe with opportunities to positively influence a young person?s school success and development whether it be through mentoring, tutoring, youth leadership development, or other youth related service. Sometimes though, opportunities are missed when it comes to working with diverse children and youth because little attention is given to the cultural aspects of how best to work with and build relationships with diverse children and youth in culturally relevant ways. National service programs have unique opportunities to fully engage diverse children and youth while bridging cultural understanding and developing the cultural competency of staff, members, and volunteers through their service.

This HRD training is designed for program staff, members, and volunteers who would like to become more effective in their mentoring, tutoring, and other work with diverse children and youth. Participants will have an opportunity to deepen their own understanding of cultural considerations for building successful working relationships with diverse children and youth. They will also learn about effective strategies, basic tips and tools, and resources for successful cross-cultural service to diverse children and youth. Although there is no prerequisite required for this workshop, it is recommended that participants have previously attended a diversity fundamentals workshop.

There will be a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee for each workshop for materials and breaks. Participants are responsible for all travel, hotel, and meal costs.
