WHY AN URBAN INSTITUTE?
Service-Learning is an exciting experiential education approach to help youth get the most out of their education through service projects directly tied to their curriculum.

Some of the most exciting successes of Service-Learning have taken place in
inner city and urban environments, but there are also many unique challenges
as well that are different from those in rural environments. This is the first national gathering to explore and discuss these challenges.

WHO IS THIS FOR?
The Urban Institute is more than a training for teachers and community-based
organizations. It will present the results of several significant studies in
Service-Learning and provide extensive networking opportunities with experts
and specialists in Service-Learning in urban environments. It is also a good introduction for those who are just starting to explore the exciting potential of Service-Learning. No previous experience with Service-Learning is required, but the Urban Institute will meet the needs of advanced practitioners as well.

The Urban Institute will feature acclaimed speakers, writers and presenters
such as Frances Parker, Dr. Verna Price, Carole Klopp, Dr. James Toole, Wokie Weah and Bryan Thao Worra, and many other specialists and experts in urban service-learning.
