National Service Agency Releases Performance Reports on AmeriCorps, Learn and Serve America

The Corporation for National and Community Service has released performance reports for its AmeriCorps State and Learn and Serve America programs. The release of these reports follows the unveiling of “Volunteering in America: State Trends and Rankings 2002-2005,” a first-ever federal study to give a detailed breakdown of America’s volunteering habits and patterns by state and region.

In its second annual publication, the AmeriCorps State Commission Performance Report highlights the role AmeriCorps programs and their members play in meeting community needs and managing volunteers who in turn provide volunteer service. The Performance Report also offers a comprehensive review of AmeriCorps impact and performance data for the program years 2002-2003 through 2004-2005, as well as trends reflecting prior years, organized by state. Each AmeriCorps profile contains:

? program service highlights
? estimates of the number of community volunteers engaged in service as a result of the efforts of AmeriCorps members
? state maps that illustrate where AmeriCorps members served
? a chart showing AmeriCorps State budgeted funding levels by year, from program years 2001-2002 through 2004-2005
? a chart demonstrating overall match funding by year, from 2001-2002 through 2004-2005
? a chart detailing the usage of the AmeriCorps Education Award.

This is the inaugural year for the publication of a Learn and Serve America Performance Report. This report provides program data for those educational institutions and nonprofit organizations that operated programs designed to integrate service into schools, colleges and youth development programs receiving funds from Learn and Serve America in the 2004-2005 program year.

The report details the geographic distribution of Learn and Serve America programs and provides a demographic portrait of the over 1.5 million students and other service-learning participants supported by the program. In addition, the report tracks the adoption of key policies and program elements that contribute to the sustainability and institutionalization of programs. All of the data presented in the report is drawn from LASSIE, the Learn and Serve System for Information Exchange.

The report features:
? National profiles of Learn and Serve America’s School- and Community-Based competitive programs
? National profiles of Learn and Serve America’s Higher Education competitive programs
? Profiles of each state’s School-Based Learn and Serve programs, in which K-12 students serve their community (funded by Formula grants to each State Education Agency).

Both the AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America Performance Reports were created in consultation with advisory groups from the programs. The Corporation is committed to working with its constituents and programs to develop measures of performance that will enhance the services we provide to our service participants, volunteers, and communities.
