Dear After-School Colleagues:

The William T. Grant Foundation has aligned a significant portion of its efforts around improving the quality of after-school programs. Because you are a key player in the after-school arena, we want to share with you two papers, just released, that synthesize information from four major evaluations of after-school programs nationwide. These papers discuss the recent findings and offer recommendations for policymakers, practitioners, advocates, scholars, and funders.

One paper is a commentary by Tom Kane and me and helps answer the question, “What are the implications from the recent set of reports for policy and practice?” The second paper by Tom is a more technical and thorough analysis. It is the basis for the commentary. Both papers benefited from earlier reviews by the authors of the four evaluations and many people receiving this email.

Please consider the recommendations offered in the two papers as you work to improve the quality of after-school programs. Feel free to share these papers with your colleagues who may be interested in this topic.

Regards,

Bob Granger
