Butterflies in the Garden
Creating a healthy habitat that attracts butterflies is not difficult. There is great pleasure seeing these lovely insects flying about in your garden is a great reward. There are about 60 species in this area, and learning to identify them and their needs is a good way to start planning a butterfly garden. The lecture will illustrate local butterflies and the flowers they nectar on. These include trees, shrubs, annuals and perennials as well as native wildflowers. The plants where they lay their eggs will also be discussed.

Jane Ruffin
Jane Ruffin was born in England, studied art in Italy and London, and then worked for a photographer for several years before moving to Pennsylvania in 1976. Her strong interest in natural history, especially butterflies and gardening, led her to volunteer in the Entomology Department at the Academy of Natural Sciences. With the Academy, she has traveled to Africa on three scientific expeditions. Jane lectures throughout the country on butterfly gardening, butterfly identification, photography, and many other subjects.
