Job description
Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory provides after-school and summer programming for high school teenagers from low wealth communities in Philadelphia’s northern sections. The programs provide students with project-based learning opportunities in the areas of traditional wooden boat building, environmental ecology, and competitive sailing. In 2013, the organization piloted the Community Row Riverguides project. We are seeking to fill the Science Education Director’s position in a full-time capacity by May of 2014.
The Science Education Director is a managing director and lead direct service provider for the Community Row Riverguides (CRRG) program. CRRG is a year-round, marine ecology based program for high school students. The program has two components: the Riverguides project, which is an apprenticeship in environmental ecology for 24 high school teenagers, and the Community Row project, which is an on-water program for schools and community based organizations that is led by the organization’s student Riverguides.
Requirements:
·Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in ecology, environmental education or a related field.
·Experience working with high school aged youth.
·Strong organizational skills and an ability to work independently.
·Excellent communications skills.
·A valid driver’s license.
