The Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger and the Mayor’s Office of Civic Engagement and Volunteer Service in partnership with the New York City Coalition Against Hunger is seeking two full-time VISTA members to:
Senior Hunger Outreach Coordinator
- Convene community leaders and members to identify senior nutrition program barriers, including SNAP (food stamps) and develop a comprehensive plan to improve access in their communities.
- Utilize Philadelphia’s Senior Hunger Task Force to guide a strategic planning process to inform the long-term citywide goals to address senior hunger.
- Improve information sharing and conduct trainings to connect seniors to existing resources, focusing on underserved areas.
- Grow the capacity of neighborhood-based resources to meet senior hunger needs.
- Continue to develop outreach efforts to immigrant services organizations to train them on initiating SNAP enrollment.
Child Hunger Outreach Coordinator
- Convene community leaders and members to identify program barriers to child nutrition programs, as well as the SNAP (food stamp) Program and develop a comprehensive plan to improve access to these programs in their communities.
- Leverage existing community resources by developing relationships with child nutrition program stakeholders fromstate and local government, non-profit organizations, and the faith community.
- Develop the Coalition’s ability to serve as a clearinghouse for information about the full range of child nutrition programs.
- Increase the Coalition’s capacity to use data-driven strategies in its outreach efforts for child nutrition programs such as the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP).
This is a one year, full-time position beginning June 23, 2014. Its is expected that the candidate will be available for the needs of your community and project at all times, including days, nights and weekends. Because AmeriCorps VISTA service requires a full immersion in the project and community, both full and part-time employment are strictly prohibited – no exceptions – as well as adhere to some political and religious activities.
