How Museums and Libraries Create Lifelong Learners
Posted by on July 22, 2013
A new report, Growing Young Minds: How Museums and Libraries Create Lifelong Learners, released by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, highlights 10 ways that public museums and libraries work to support early learning, providing a bridge between informal and formal learning environments.
The top three ways museums and libraries support early learning efforts is to
- increase high-quality early learning experiences;
- engage an support families as their child’s first teachers; and
- support the development of executive function and “deeper learning” skills through literacy and STEM-based experience.
Libraries and museums provide literacy-rich environments that are a critical foundation for early learning. Leveraging these assets is an important step to improve early learning.
Visit your local library or museum this summer to see what great programs they have to offer!
