Volunteers needed: PhillyPatientRide
Sometimes the greatest challenge cancer patients face is getting to their treatments. That’s why the American Cancer Society and PhillyCarShare have partnered for PhillyPatientRide, a program that provides free transportation to patients who may have no other way of getting to their life-saving appointments. Volunteer drivers are needed for daytime hours, Monday through Friday – a few hours per month or per week would be greatly appreciated! Volunteers will be trained and given access to PhillyCarShare’s fleet of vehicles to use to provide transportation to participating area hospitals and treatment centers. Interested volunteers must be at least 21 years old and need only a valid driver’s license, a safe driving record, a few hours per month and the drive to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients here in Philadelphia. For more information contact Jamie McCann at Jamie.mccann@cancer.org or at (215) 985-5359 or visit http://www.phillypatientride.org.
Additional volunteer opportunities exist for volunteers who would like to use their own car, both in Philadelphia and in the suburban counties. Please call Jamie McCann 215-985-5359 for more details.
For more information on the American Cancer Society’s programs and services, contact the American Cancer Society’s National Cancer Information Center (NCIC) at 1-800-227-2345 or online at http://www.cancer.org. The American Cancer Society has many programs and services to help you understand cancer, get practical help like rides to treatment or a place to stay, and find emotional support. We can also connect you to valuable resources in your community.
