Archived Webinar: Are Our Neighborhoods Making Us Sick?
Inadequate housing conditions–the presence of lead, radon, water leaks, poor ventilation, pollution or mold–are linked to poor health. But research also shows that even the neighborhood in which you live can affect both how healthy you are and how long you can expect to live.
The webinar provided highlights from key articles in the recent issue of the National Housing Institute’s magazine Shelterforce, and addressed such questions as:
What’s the link between substandard housing, disinvested neighborhoods and health – and how do the community development and housing sectors contribute to better health outcomes for low-income people?
How is health philanthropy supporting community health improvement initiatives?
Why and how are new sectors such as community development and housing beginning to consider the health impact of their work?
What other partners should be at the table to help improve the health of communities and how can they get involved?
