Knight Community Information Challenge Invites Community Foundations to Apply for Media Project Matching Grants
Deadline: February 27, 2012
The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation welcomes applications for the fifth and final round of the Knight Community Information Challenge from community and place-based foundations seeking to fund news and information projects. Since 2009, the challenge has awarded a total of $16.2 million to eighty-five foundations for their community media projects.
The matching grant program is designed to encourage foundations to find creative ways to fund media projects that inform and engage residents and to provide a unique opportunity for foundations to make an impact on issues they care about.
There are three simple rules for the contest: Applicants must be community or place-based foundations in the U.S. (community partners are welcome); projects must be designed to meet a local information need; and foundations must provide a cash match for Knight funding. Community or place-based foundations with questions about the challenge are invited to register for a Web-based live chat that will take place on February 8, 2012.
For complete program information, an FAQ, examples of funded projects, and to register for the Web-based live chat, visit the Information Challenge Web site.
