Duties:
As a key member of the development team, this position will be responsible for developing proposals for funding from both foundations and government agencies, and researching and forging new relationships with prospective foundation funders. This position maintains relationships with existing funders and develops new relationships with prospective funders. This position also works in concert with the development department to develop effective strategies for reaching overall annual and campaign goals as a team.
Specific responsibilities include:
Developing and writing foundation and government agency (NEA, PCA and PCF) grant proposals for existing funders to maintain a solid base of funding each year. This will include gathering input from Mann staff including the President & CEO, Vice Presidents of Operations and Institutional Advancement, the Director of Education and Community Engagement, and consultants working on various projects for the Mann.
Researching, developing and writing grant proposals to submit to new foundation funders.
Developing and writing reports for foundation and government agency grants. This will include gathering data from Mann staff as part of the report, including actual financial results against budget, etc.
Work closely with Mann financial personnel to obtain annual and project budgets, obtain copies of audits and 990s for submission with grants, and complete PA Cultural Data Project reports annually to be used with grant applications.
Coordinate communication with the Mann’s lobbyist, arranging meetings as needed to stay in front of public officials to generate legislative support for the Mann.
As a senior staff member, provide leadership on the Development team, and work closely with other members of the team on day to day activities and development events both during the season on site at the Mann and off season during cultivation events.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree required. Masters degree is optional. A minimum of five years of progressively responsible development experience, including at least two years of working with foundations on proposals of $100,000 and above required. Excellent oral and written communications skills are required. Experience and knowledge of Philadelphia’s foundation and government community is critically important. Candidates for this position must be extremely organized, enjoy a fast-paced environment, be detail-oriented and have superb interpersonal skills. Must be goal oriented with a focus on strategies to achieve budget. Candidate must be a self-starter yet a team player. Experience with Word, Excel and Razor’s Edge is essential. An interest and relevant experience in the performing arts is helpful.
