Why You Will Want to Attend: We will look at the dynamics of our diverse community to position ourselves to provide support, services, and opportunities to all individuals. We will come to the understanding that Cultural Proficiency training is not a one-time lesson but a journey over time. After these sessions, we expect each participant to have the ability to perform a critical analysis of how they (as individuals) and their organization approach inclusion, and know how they can make changes as a result of increased cultural proficiency.
Our Guide: Our facilitator, Dr. Barbara Moore Williams, is CEO of BMW & Associates, an education and diversity consultant company. Dr. Williams has more than 25 years in the field of diversity training and has been working with the North Penn School District for the past three years.
Training Goals:
#1—Learn the cultural proficiency tools to enhance skills in interacting with a diverse clientele and inspect the organization to identify socio-cultural inclusion improvements
The Tools… A continuum that describes both healthy and unproductive policies, practices, and behaviors Guiding principles of culture to be used to understand our own and other cultures’ actions, beliefs, and behaviors Barriers to culturally proficient behaviors including resistance to change and the role that unearned privilege plays in diverse groups Expectations and dynamics of culturally proficient organizations
#2—Discuss and explore the relationship of personal transformation and effective leadership
#3—Examine the concept of privilege and its impact on daily interactions and organizational policies and practices
#4—Identify effective strategies for systemic changes
#5—Plan for next steps with organizational teams
BECAUSE EACH SESSION BUILDS ON THE PREVIOUS ONES,
IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT PARTICIPANTS PLAN TO ATTEND ALL SESSIONS.
