AmeriCorps Community Fellows Program

In partnership with PennSERVE, the Governor’s Office on Citizen Service, Pennsylvania Campus Compact (PACC) is pleased to announce the availability of 500 Part-time AmeriCorps awards to member and non-member institutions for the 2011-2012 academic year. This AmeriCorps Education Award Only Program, AmeriCorps Community Fellows, seeks to increase the number of college students serving in the areas of college access and success. The purpose of the AmeriCorps Community Fellows program is to address compelling community needs in the areas of college access and success, while developing college students as active citizens.

In exchange for committing to serving 300 hours over the course of the calendar year, Community Fellows will receive an AmeriCorps Education Award of $1,208* upon completion of their service. Community Fellow service activities can include, but are not limited to:

o Providing academic support to K-12 at-risk students;
o Mentoring K-12 at-risk students;
o Serving in an academic enrichment program;
o Volunteering in a college access program;
o Providing workshops for at-risk students in: career awareness, study skills, or college admissions process;
o Exposing at-risk students to the college environment via campus tours, sitting in on classes, or meeting with faculty;
o Serving in a public high school guidance department;
o Providing one-on-one counseling on the financial aid process and/or college application process;
o Providing any of these supports to veterans seeking to attend college;
o Supporting a service-learning course that focuses on any of these areas;
o Coordinating and supporting volunteers who serve in any of these areas.

*This amount is approximate and based on the anticipated increase of the Pell Grant and all AmeriCorps Education Awards. The actual amount will be determined before members start serving.
