“Inclusion: The New Face of Affirmative Action?”
Call for Presentation Proposals

Founder K. Leroy Irvis (Speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives) in 1970, founded PBCOHE with the mission to ensure that underrepresented minorities in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania would have access to a quality education. While the main focus remains constant, different sub-themes and issues continue to be brought forth.

The annual conference theme for 2017, “INCLUSION: The New Face of Affirmative Action?” is meant to explore various transition points for education in general and post-secondary education in particular. This theme is inclusive of issues for administrators, faculty, staff, and students.

This year we want to focus on just what the term “Inclusion” means? Who and what is inclusion targeting? Who and what is inclusion meant to serve? How will inclusion benefit minorities and other underrepresented groups? Is the term inclusion legitimate? What is the difference between Inclusion and Affirmative Action? What is expected of us in the inclusive world? Is this an evolution or a digression from the norm? Realistically, what is the norm? We invite you to submit proposals to present at the conference addressing the theme. Some topics and sub-themes include:

  • What is Diversity?
  • What is Inclusion?
  • Is there a need for Diversity and/or Inclusion?
  • The Current Disconnect – Affirmative Action/Diversity/Inclusion
  • The Ethics of Inclusion
  • Inclusion in the Workplace – Higher Education or Public Schools
  • Developmental Issues related to Diversity and/or Inclusion
  • A Sense of History about Diversity and Inclusion and Affirmative Action
  • Diversity and/or Inclusion Campus Needs and Campus Climate
  • Best Practices on Diversity and/or Inclusion for Campus Climate
  • Diversity/Inclusion/Affirmative Action on your Campus
