Call for Proposals: Continuums of Service Conference

Posted by on December 6, 2002

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Over the past week, many of you have contacted us with session ideas for “Service-Learning in Challenging Times: Contexts and Crossroads,” the sixth annual Continuums of Service conference, to be held 9-11 April 2003 in Bellevue, WA. However, problems with our server have made it impossible, until today, for us to accept proposal submissions. Those problems are now fixed and so we encourage you to begin submitting your proposals.

To help compensate for the delay, we have extended the submission deadline. Proposals are now due by 11 December 2002 at 5:00 PM PST. All proposals must be submitted on-line. You can reach the proposal submission form and a full description of the conference theme by visiting the conference website at:

http://www.ac.wwu.edu/~campcomp/cos/

We particularly want to draw your attention to two highlights of the conference.

First, Continuums of Service conferences have always been congenial places for students to join faculty, staff, and community partners in discussions of service-learning. This year’s conference will continue that practice by including a student-led plenary session and regularly scheduled student gatherings throughout the conference. We encourage you to include students in your proposals, invite students to submit their own proposals, and pass along information about the conference to the students you work with.

Second, for the past several years the visual and performing arts have played an important role in forming the conference environment. This year, for the first time, we are accepting proposals for artwork as part of our regular proposal submission process. If you or any of your colleagues have produced art that matches the conference theme, or worked in art-related service-learning efforts, please consider sending us a proposal. Instructions for submitting artwork are included in the regular proposal submission form.

We look forward to seeing your proposals. As always, if you have any questions or would like to discuss ideas for sessions, please give me a call or send me an email.

Yours,
gary
