In addition to grants and fellowships that facilitate breakthrough journalism, we support initiatives that connect the reporting to the audiences that need it the most. Our goal is pursuing real-world impact: engaging and mobilizing communities, increasing understanding and connection, and influencing decisions locally and globally.

This microgrant aims to support civil society organizations and groups in the United States to utilize Pulitzer Center-supported reporting as part of projects that contribute to a more informed and empowered community.

For this grant cycle, we are seeking grant proposals for civic engagement projects to be completed by early December 2026 that focus on one of the following issues:

Climate and the environment, with a focus on U.S fisheries and fishing communities or climate and labor

Information and Artificial Intelligence

Global health, with specific focus on mental well-being or connections to the Global South

The objective is to use Pulitzer Center-supported journalism as the inspiration for the projects supported by this civil society microgrant. By leveraging this reporting, we expect to build projects that amplify the voices of affected communities, foster public debate, and drive meaningful audience engagement that will lead to impactful conversations in communities in the U.S. and beyond.

This grant is open to grassroots organizations, academics and researchers, education institutions, civil society organizations and coalitions, youth movements, and other groups working at the intersection of journalism, civic rights, and active citizenship.

Applications are due Monday, June 8, 2026.

Develop and enhance effective school library programs, which may include providing professional development for school librarians, books, and up-to-date materials to high-need schools;

Provide early literacy services, including pediatric literacy programs through which, during well-child visits, medical providers trained in research-based methods of early language and literacy promotion provide developmentally appropriate books and recommendations to parents to encourage them to read aloud to their children starting in infancy; and

Provide high-quality books on a regular basis to children and adolescents from low-income communities to increase reading motivation, performance, and frequency.

By expanding access to high‐quality books, strengthening school library programs, and promoting early language and literacy development in low‐income communities, the IAL program directly advances the goal of increasing reading proficiency. These strategies build strong foundational skills from birth through adolescence, ensuring that children and students—particularly those in high‐need LEAs—receive the targeted supports necessary to improve their reading motivation, performance, and long‐term literacy outcomes.

The Haverford Township Education, Arts & Music Society (HTEAMS) is pleased to announce that it will be awarding grants to area organizations to enhance or cultivate activities in education, music, and/or the arts.

The grants will range from $500 to $1,000, and will be awarded to individuals and organizations pursuing projects that support HTEAMS’s mission of “strengthen[ing] the cultural identity of Haverford Township by promoting local endeavors that focus on using music and art as a bridge to promote education and to enhance the quality of life in our community.”

HTEAMS is a volunteer-run organization that presents the annual Haverford Music Festival, a free, family-friendly event. The 14th Haverford Music Festival will take place on Saturday, September 26, 2026, on two stages at the corner of Darby and Eagle roads in Havertown.

“Providing grants to help advance projects in our community is the natural extension of what HTEAMS exists to do,” said Jesse Hubley, HTEAMS President.

Grant applications are being accepted until September 1, 2026, and will be reviewed by the HTEAMS grant committee.

“The main thing we are going to be looking for is projects that are consistent with our core mission, and make Haverford Township a truly great place to be,” said Hubley.

HTEAMS has previously awarded one $1,000 grant, in 2023, to the Haverford Jazz Residency Campaign. The Campaign funds an artist-in-residence program for jazz students of the School District of Haverford Township and the artist in residence visits the district throughout the year, teaching and performing alongside students.

Political and religious endeavors will not be considered for the grant. Those interested can download an application form here. Additional information is available here. Applicants are welcome to submit supporting materials, including files and photos.

About the Haverford Township Education, Arts & Music Society (HTEAMS)

The mission of the Haverford Township Education, Arts & Music Society (HTEAMS) is to strengthen the cultural identity of Haverford Township by promoting local endeavors that focus on using music and art as a bridge to promote education and to enhance the quality of life in our community. Our primary direct benefit to the community is the production of the annual Haverford Township Music Festival, a free local cultural and social event highlighting original music.
