As these new policies take effect, Pennsylvania Health Access Network (PHAN), Community Legal Services, Clarifi, The Pennsylvania Health Law Project, and other advocates from across the state are coming together to convene a series of educational trainings for statewide organizations.

This training series is for organizations and staff looking to learn more about public benefits eligibility, upcoming policy changes, and how to get involved to protect access to benefits programs in Pennsylvania.

Our first training topic will be “Understanding Who Will Be Impacted by Medicaid Work Requirements.”

Date and Time: Wednesday, June 24, 2:00 PM

We will give an introductory overview of Medicaid changes in H.R. 1 and discuss who will need to meet the new work requirement rules.

Kids and families can experience special performances of Schoolhouse Rock Live!, face painting, meet-and-greets with historical reenactors, colonial-era games, a Revolutionary War encampment, and the Center’s interactive exhibits. Museum programs at the National Constitution Center will highlight the history of the holiday and stories of freedom fighters from the Reconstruction era, including Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and Frances Ellen Watkins Harper.

Admission to the Center is free on Juneteenth to celebrate this national holiday.

The organization recently faced an unexpected financial hurdle, but just like their resilient young storytellers, they persevered. Lil’ Filmmakers was featured on The Jennifer Hudson Show this year and will hold Rox the Block, a Philly block party-style fundraiser on Saturday, July 11, 12:00-4:00 PM, in the Roxborough section of the city.

What’s on the Script:
Nostalgic Eats: Fresh funnel cake, grill classics, classic Philly water ice + more.
Block Party Vibes: Double dutch competitions, games and prizes, local vendors, mini golf, and incredible music.
Purpose: 100% of proceeds go directly to media educational programs, film productions and operational expenses.

Come hungry, bring your inner child, and let’s make sure the cameras keep rolling for our youth.

Tour behind the scenes, talk with our horticulture and ecology experts, and participate in hands-on, minds-on activities that can be taken back to your classroom to engage your students in three-dimensional learning with a focus on Environmental Literacy & Sustainability and Life Sciences standards.

Recommended for educators in grades 3–5. Please note some walking is required, dress comfortably for the terrain and the outdoors. Lunch and all materials included. All course participants who complete the class will receive a Longwood gift card.

How can we keep each other safe? What is justice? Restorative justice (RJ) offers a bold vision for a transformed society, where building robust community shapes how we experience interconnectedness, repair harm, solve problems, and cultivate collective thriving.

You’re invited to participate at no cost in the inaugural cohort of Temple University’s restorative justice microcredential. Join us to develop a foundational understanding of RJ, practice transferrable facilitation skills for leading restorative circles, learn about Philadelphia’s restorative practitioner community, and consider how you can contribute to a citywide restorative movement. Everyone is welcome to this accessible program, though educators in PreK-12 and higher education settings and members of the North Philadelphia community will be prioritized for this pilot year’s enrollment. Hybrid classes run four Thursday evenings in July and twelve Thursday evenings in the fall semester.

But despite efforts to advance digital equity, many Philadelphians still struggle to get access to reliable, affordable internet. Philly Community Wireless makes communities a part of the solution through its community internet model.  TLC and PCW spent the past year meeting with communities across Greater Philadelphia as part of an awareness and advocacy campaign to introduce them to the possibilities of community internet models in their neighborhoods.

In this webinar, you will learn:

  • How PCW is expanding access to a growing number of underserved communities with its community internet model
  • Common needs and barriers to internet access and how advocacy about community internet can address the digital divide
  • Resources we have created to help community members understand their role in taking action to strengthen internet access in their own neighborhoods
  • Ways to get involved in raising awareness about community internet models and continuing to build the PCW network in Philadelphia and beyond

Participants will come away from this event with a clear idea of what partnerships and resources are needed to expand public access and build towards community internet. To emphasize our findings and their impact, we will share a story about efforts taking place in Camden, NJ.

A powerful annual convening for a candid dialogue about the structural inequities that shape our society.

Please join us on Wednesday, August 5, 6 – 8 p.m. for the 18th annual Global Citizen Beer Summit Conversation on Race, Class & Power. This year’s conversation will focus on Erasing American History: The Assault on Black America. A focal point of the conversation will be the ongoing movement to preserve, protect, and defend the President’s House Slavery Memorial on Independence Mall.

The annual Beer Summit conversation brings together diverse groups who are interested in issues of racial and social justice. It will be moderated by Global Citizen board chair and iHeartMedia Philadelphia director of news and community affairs, Loraine Ballard Morrill, with presentations by three conversationalists (panelists), as well as everyone participating in small breakout conversations led by table facilitators.

Free beer, soft drinks, and light food will be served. As always, we hope to leave the event with a plan of citizen action.

As many of us know, experiencing the loss of a loved one is devastating. Losing someone suddenly as a result of homicide creates a level of trauma that impacts the Mind, Body, and Soul. This program was created to provide a safe and supportive space for healing, connection, movement, and emotional wellness for mothers and children alike. While mothers focus on this restorative program, children will engage in age-appropriate mindfulness activities.

A space to learn, connect, and act on co-created solutions

As we approach America’s Semi-Quincentennial and national attention turns toward Philadelphia, partners from across the city are creating a welcoming space for residents, organizers, practitioners, advocates, and more to come together to learn, connect, and take co-created actions.

NKCDC invites everyone to join them for a citywide exhibit and engagement series to take a critical and honest look at key issues shaping Philadelphia today, to envision a more just and equitable future for our city, and to act on solutions that address our greatest challenges.

REMINDER: There are stipends available for up to 25 people each month between June and October. Teens are eligible to participate and can receive $200 for participation in 4 total events (3 events in one month + 1 event in another month).
