YOUTHadelphia is Recruiting New Committee Members!
YOUTHadelphia 2013 is Forming Now!
YOUTHadelphia , the youth advisory committee of the Fund for Children, includes up to 20 high school students from a wide range of Philadelphia neighborhoods, schools and youth organizations.
YOUTHadelphia engages youth in grantmaking activities and provides leadership-development opportunities as well as a forum for youth dialogue and action. YOUTHadelphia 2012 awarded $85,000 for nine youth-led and youth-engaged projects addressing four areas chosen by the participants: Teen Homelessness, Mentoring, Teen LGBTQ Support, and Teen Delinquency, specifically violence.
Student participants say this about the program:
“You have a chance to build your public speaking, teamwork, organizational, critical thinking and analytical skills. And it helped me give to my community in an area where I felt it would help.” – D’Angelo Cameron
“My favorite part was meeting a new group of people who have the same interest as me. ” – Asia West
“I like it that my opinion and that of other students changed our community to be better for youth.” – Shakira Todd
“It felt empowering. It’s really cool and a great preparation for the business world!” – Baseerah Watson
Youth in Grades 9, 10 and 11 who are committed to civic participation are invited to apply. Interested applicants should complete the application and return it, along with a letter of recommendation, by November 26, 2012. The application also is available on the Join YOUTHadelphia page on The Philadelphia Foundation website.
The YOUTHadelphia 2013 Committee will meet at The Philadelphia Foundation on Thursdays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. from January 3 through mid-June 2013. Dinner and tokens for transportation will be provided for every meeting.
