General Description: The Youth Health Educator provides youth and community education and outreach for improved youth health outcomes. This position reports to the Program Coordinator, and in his/her absence the Manager of Youth and Family Prevention. The Educator’s role is to: (1) conduct group education to middle school students as dictated by curriculum and program guidelines; (2) document all program activities as assigned; and (3) represent Concilio’s Youth Health Program services internally and externally as appropriate.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct Services
Provide educational workshops and any individual sessions as assigned;
Utilizing the evidence-based abstinence education curriculum, Promoting Health Among Teens (PHAT), provide 6-10 workshops sessions weekly within specified schools and community sites to 6th – 7th graders as assigned;
Utilize with strict adherence the assigned curricula (PHAT and other) and other materials;
Report any group or other program concerns to program supervisor;
Data enter and compile all data for program reporting in full compliance with agency and other confidentiality measures;
Attend relevant health fairs and community events to promote the program;
Attend all required trainings and meetings;
Participate in and be prepared for bi-weekly individual supervision and other staff meetings;
Uphold the professional standards of the program and organization;
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Education or related field, or a minimum of two years relevant work experience.
Knowledge of adolescent health and general family health issues.
Strong public speaking and written communication skills.
Ability to engage, connect with and educate at-risk youth in Philadelphia.
Knowledge of adolescent health and related risky behaviors.
FBI, Pennsylvania Childline and Criminal Background Clearances.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required.
Computer and technological proficiency required
