Youth Engaged in Service toolkit
Posted by on July 28, 2008
In 2003, President George W. Bush established the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to recognize the important contributions that Americans of all ages are making within their communities through service and civic engagement. Administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the Council brings together leaders from the worlds of business, entertainment, sports, education, government, nonprofits, and the media. The President’s Council is committed to find ways to encourage and increase the amount of citizens that actively engage in community service.
With the support of CNCS, USA Freedom Corps, and the First Lady’s Helping America’s Youth Initiative, the Council created the Youth Engaged in Service (YES) toolkit, http://www.presidentialserviceawards.gov/yes. The YES toolkit is intended to provide local youth leaders – coaches, ministers, volunteers, and community program coordinators — the tools and resources needed to incorporate youth service into their existing efforts in order to increase the number of youth from all walks of life engaging in volunteer opportunities.
