The Netter Center for Community Partnerships (NCCP)/Urban Nutrition Initiative (UNI) high school internship program empowers 9th-12th grade students from West Philadelphia high schools in meaningful service learning and college and career readiness sessions. By teaching healthy cooking classes, organizing school-wide college fairs, facilitating neighborhood health screenings, and operating local farmer’s markets, interns enrich their local neighborhoods, increase access to healthy food, and improve community and school health while building their leadership capacity and developing academic and job-related skills. Each week, student interns spend 8 hours at their service learning worksite and 2 hours at our College and Career Readiness (CACR) Sessions. Topics covered at CACR sessions include developing positive study habits, subject specific instruction, and college and career readiness. This position will be responsible for the overall management of Academic Growth Plan (AGP) and the Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) grant, which pays our teen interns.

In order to implement the AGP, the Youth Employment and Academic Coordinator will:

* work closely with seventy student interns in grades 10-12;
* hold academic intervention meetings with students receiving D’s or F’s in their classes;
* work closely with other staff members and school teachers to ensure the academic development of UNI high school interns;
* facilitate meetings with student’s parents and worksite supervisors,
* monitor student’s academic progress, and
* maintain databases of academic information, i.e., report cards and bi-weekly academic check-in sheets.

For managing the PYN grant, Youth Employment and Academic Coordinator will establish and implement recruitment and retention efforts for the internship program. Specific duties include:

* Designing and implementing a strategic plan to recruit students to exceed target enrollment for the Philadelphia Youth Network grant; this requires working closely with both school leadership and NCCP/UNI staff;
* Assisting students and parents with processing required forms for students to successfully enroll in programs;
* Maintaining targeted enrollment numbers by monitoring attendance at CACR and service learning sessions, calling students and parents about progress, and communicating with school day staff about students progress (both school day and after school);
* Processing students payroll and incentives weekly to ensure consistent and timely payment;
* Submitting all required documentation to funders, including but not limited to enrollment, attendance, payroll and incentives, student progress, and overall activity reporting;
* Communicating with program partners, school administration, and other staff on the progress of recruitment, retention, progress of students within the program.
* Securing feedback from participants on program quality and satisfaction;
* supporting comprehensive evaluation and assessment activities.

Other duties include assisting with administrative tasks, attending required meetings, and completing other duties as required.

Qualifications:

* Bachelors degree with related work experience
* Education or social services background preferred
* Excellent communication skills, including verbal and writing
* 3 years experience in education/teaching/youth development
* Ability to work evening hours
* Demonstrate sensitivity, tact, and professionalism in dealing with others
* Ability to think critically and strategically
* Familiarity with the West Philadelphia community and locations where parents are connected
* Energetic
* Ability to serve as a role model, consistently demonstrating UNI’s core values
* Experience managing data a plus
* Must possess experience with Microsoft Office and Google Documents
