Youth Court Seminar
Wednesday, April 10th from 3 pm to 5:30
United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of PA
615 Chestnut Street, 8th Floor Conference Rooms
Philadelphia, PA 19106
The seminar will feature remarks from U.S. Attorney Zane David Memeger who will discuss youth courts as a preventative strategy to reduce juvenile crime and terminate the school-to-prison pipeline; Philadelphia City Council Majority Leader Curtis Jones, Jr. will discuss the youth court resolution he introduced, and which was unanimously adopted by the Philadelphia City Council, which calls for youth court expansion; and Eva Gold, Founder of Research for Action and a nationally-recognized expert in the areas of civic and community engagement in school reform, will discuss her organization’s recent evaluation of youth courts.
Three panels of experienced youth court practitioners: law students, lawyers, educators, teachers, college students and other professionals will discuss why youth courts are both a preferred disciplinary system, and provide great promise as an academic, socialization and civic engagement program for youth-particularly in low-income neighborhoods.
There is no charge to attend. This program has been approved for CLE by the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board thru the Pennsylvania Bar Institute: One (1) hour of substantive law, practice and procedure CLE credit and one (1) hour of ethics, professionalism or substance abuse CLE credit.
