Colin Higgins Foundation Invites Nominations for Youth Courage Awards
Deadline: March 2, 2007

The Colin Higgins Foundation (<a href="http://www.colinhiggins.org/">http://www.colinhiggins.org/</a>) annually awards the Colin Higgins Youth Courage Awards for bravery in the face of discrimination, intolerance, and bigotry based on sexual orientation and/or gender.

Each year, the foundation salutes, celebrates, and fosters courage in the face of adversity and discrimination by awarding grants to individuals who are either 1) lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or questioning youth (through age 24) who have bravely stood up to hostility and intolerance based on their sexual orientation and/or gender and triumphed over bigotry; or 2) allies (age 24 or under) who are working to end homophobia and discrimination against LGBTQ communities.

Individuals chosen to receive the Colin Higgins Youth Courage Awards have endured overwhelming hostility and hate, yet have handled themselves with the utmost grace.

Self-nominations are not accepted.

In 2007, two to three honorees will each receive a $10,000 grant that will be presented in New York City at the Trevor Project Benefit Gala in June. Honorees will also receive an expense-paid trip to the Creating Change Conference this fall.

Visit the Colin Higgins Foundation Web site for nomination guidelines and materials.
