EPI Youth Conference Seeks Volunteers
The Employer-Paid Internships (EPI) Youth Conference is a kick-off training event for WorkReady Philadelphia’s Employer-Paid Internship summer program.
The conference will be filled with information and activities that help youth prepare for work and better develop the skills that promote workplace success. The EPI Youth Conference will be held Saturday, June 23rd from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Drexel University.
Employer-Paid Internships (EPI) provide Philadelphia high school students with paid workplace experiences at area businesses for six weeks during the summer. These internships give young people a taste of the working world, exposure to career opportunities, and an understanding of how school is connected to economic success.
The program is an integral component of WorkReady Philadelphia, a broad-based partnership dedicated to building the region’s future workforce. As part of the WorkReady initiative, the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce and United Way have joined the Philadelphia Youth Network to help recruit employers and more than double the number of internships from 2006.
There are a variety of opportunities including registration staff/chaperones, workshop co-facilitators and employers for the panel discussions. Participation is easy, and the support of volunteers helps provide career exposure and enhanced summer jobs for more than 1,000 youth. Preliminary training is provided. Interested individuals and companies should contact Stephanie Gambone, Director, School Support, Philadelphia Youth Network, at 267-502-3726 or at [email protected].
