155 PHILLY BOYS TO TAKE “YOUNG GENTLEMEN” PLEDGE FROM MAYOR KENNEY

Beyond the bricks and mortar in the city of Philadelphia, there is a garden being toiled, cultivating the behavior, spirit, and the growth of young minds.

10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 10th at the Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts, 155 boys from three Philadelphia public schools – grades 3 through 7, who participate in the Young Gentlemen aka YG’s project, will come together for the first time to video tape a musical public service announcement addressing the social concerns these young boys face today.

Prior to the videotaping segment, State Senator Sharif Street will reinforce the YG Tenets and Mayor Jim Kenney will administer the “YG” Pledge to all 155 boys, cementing their commitment to the YG project, schools and their fellow citizens.

Media outlets are invited to attend the administration of the pledge and videotaping segment of the public service announcement.

The Young Gentlemen Project focuses on restoring in youth a sense of self-confidence, increase feelings of self-worth, improve decision making strategies, and techniques for redirecting self-destructive behavior, through music and the performing arts.

The Young Gentlemen Project came to Philadelphia in March 2016 and is now in place at Thurgood Marshall Elementary School in Olney, Robert Morris Elementary School in North Philadelphia and William Rowen Elementary School in West Oak Lane.

The Young Gentlemen Project was created 2007 in Williamsport, Pa., as a Component of the Community Alliance for Progressive Positive Action (CAPPA) Youth male outreach program.

CAPPA has been a leader in the Williamsport Pa. community as a catalyst for progressive social change since 2002: https://youtu.be/TYsTe1cEpbs
