Free 13 Week Parenting Support Program!
Young Fathers United is a parenting collaborative designed to address the emotional, educational and practical parenting needs of young fathers throughout Philadelphia.Young Fathers United teaches parenting skills to young fathers, ages 14-25, and offers empowerment sessions in an effort to help young fathers combat parenthood challenges.
GOALS – Young Fathers United seeks to:
- Improve parent/child communication and interaction.
- Increase participants’ understanding of child rearing and discipline.
- Improve academic performance, if applicable
- Provide a peer/adult support network for young fathers in the community.
Young Fathers United serves approximately 100 young fathers, residing in South, Southwest, West and North Philadelphia neighborhoods.
Participants are offered workshops in Family History, Family Trends, Basic Health and Childcare. Workshop topics include “How to Balance Adolescence and Parenthood” and “Historical Trends of Multi-Ethnic Families.” Individual and Group Counseling is offered.
Guest speakers and field trips also enhance the program. In addition, participants receive referral services for Job Training, Educational and Social Service programs, and Mentoring. A light dinner is offered, and transportation assistance and childcare services are available upon request.
