The Writing Across the Curriculum teacher will work collaboratively with a college biology professor and the Philadelphia Futures Director of Academics in a summer program, which focuses on an environmental science internship at Eastern University. The program enrolls about 25 students who will have just completed their junior year in high school. The Writing Across the Curriculum teacher attends science instruction with the students, then teaches ½ day sessions that help students to reinforce what they have learned in the science lectures and field work and translate the data they have collected into reports and presentations (both oral and written).
Qualifications: (1) Two or more years prior teaching experience required (preferably teaching high school level); (2) Demonstrated commitment to the education of low income high school students and a clear understanding of related challenges; (3) Criminal and Child Abuse Clearances, if hired.
Dates: July 1 – August 12. Teaching hours vary between full days and half days (8:30 am-12:30 pm.) Compensation: Dependent on credentials and experience.
