Write Away: Virtual Digital Literacy Mentorship Program – Jul 1

Posted by Write Away on May 18, 2021

Write Away’s Digital Literacy Mentoring Program is a free, virtual program, which offers free individualized writing support for students going into grades 6-12.

Write Away is currently recruiting Digital Literacy Program Mentees for our summer session starting July 1, 2021.  Mentees should be students going into grades 6-12 at Title 1 schools OR those who qualify for free or reduced lunch.  The online Mentee Application for the Summer 2021 Digital Literacy Program is currently open.  Please note that space is limited and applications are processed on a rolling basis.

Write Away is on a mission to close the digital divide by creating fun and meaningful opportunities for digitally-based writing and expression.  Write Away was founded by educators who know the importance of human connection, mentorship, and enrichment opportunities to students’ educational journey, and this is all built into their Digital Literacy Mentorship program.

Through an entirely virtual program, Write Away pairs mentees with a college student mentor who meets with them for 18 virtual 1-hour sessions (2 meetings per week for 9 weeks).  Mentors coach and guide their mentees through a series of writing tasks aimed to promote digital literacy, provide opportunities for self-expression, and foster a love for writing.

Write Away is proud to report that during the past year, they have worked with more than 60 mentees. 100% of mentees said that the activities they do in Write Away are fun, engaging, and relevant to their personal goals.  Every mentee said their Write Away mentor makes them feel valued and said they look forward to attending their virtual mentoring sessions.  All of their mentees said Write Away is helping them become a stronger digital writer.
