World AIDS Day in Delaware County

Family & Community Service of Delaware County will mark its New Voices Seventh Annual World AIDS Day Celebration on Wednesday, December 3, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Southeast Conference Room of Community Hospital, 2600 W. Ninth St. in Chester. The celebration includes food and is free to attend. New Voices is a consumer group that facilitates consumers’ participation in advocacy and planning for HIV/AIDS services. The group is comprised entirely of HIV-positive consumers who are dedicated to advocacy educational initiatives that affect HIV positive people in Delaware County.
Lorraine Ballard Morrill of Clear Channel Media-Entertainment will serve as mistress of ceremonies. The keynote speaker at the event is Waheedah Shabazz-El from Positive Women’s Network-USA. Shabazz-El is a 57-year-old African-American Muslim woman and retired postal worker who was diagnosed with AIDS in 2003. She is a founding and advisory member of Positive Women’s Network-USA and coordinates PWN-Philly. In addition, Denina Hood, George Lincoln, Barbara Jones and Jean Mejia will be honored for their work.
