Workshop: Targeting Young Voters
Posted by on February 26, 2007
Young people are voting in record numbers – do you know how to reach them?
Approximately 10 million votes were cast by 18-29 year olds in the 2006 elections, and campaigns and organizations are starting to view the support of young voters as an essential ingredient to electoral success. But which outreach tactics work and which don?t?
To help answer these questions, Harvard?s Institute of Politics (IOP) is hosting a workshop and networking event on March 9, 2007 in Cambridge, MA to hear from top campaign operatives on what strategies were successful in courting the youth vote in 2006.
The event will include:
*Findings from the IOP?s research examining younger voter attitudes and outreach in over 50 U.S. House, Senate, and Governor?s campaigns;
*A breakdown of emerging election tactics featuring experts from the online and political organizing communities;
*A detailed case study of outreach strategies utilized in a major 2006 statewide race;
*A roundtable discussion with key 2006 campaign advisors on successful tactics in courting the youth vote;
*Lunch and an early evening networking reception.
The conference is open to anyone interested in learning more about how to reach this demographic, but space is limited and advance registration is required! Call 617-495-9320 or email [email protected] with questions. Please visit http://www.iop.harvard.edu/events_idi_registration.php for more information and to register.
