WHAT: During this half-day workshop, Alliance for Justice Attorney-trainers will strengthen your capacity to influence public policy by teaching you the rules on advocacy. Specifically you will learn the legal guidelines for participating in public policy at the local, state, or federal level, as well as, permissible electioneering activities.

WHEN: Tuesday, April 18, 2006 Time: 9:00 am to 2:00 pm

WHERE: Philadelphia Bar Association, 1101 Market Street, 11th Floor, Philadelphia PA

WHY: Many nonprofits, to fulfill their mission and objectives, need to interface with politicians, legislatures, regulatory bodies, and governmental departments. As a 501 (c) (3), many nonprofits require clarity regarding their lobbying rights. Questions that will be answered at this seminar include:

 Can we produce a voter?s guide or invite candidates to speak?
 How much can a 501 (c) (3) lobby?
 What lobbying activities, including ?electioneering communications? (i.e. television, radio or satellite broadcasts) are permissible before and after an election?
 Can we ask foundations for grants for lobbying?
 How can we structure affiliated organizations?

Cost: $20 per person, including bagged lunch and materials
