The PEACE Project
Personalized ? Entrepreneurial ? Active ? Collaborative ? Exploratory
Are you committed to social justice and education reform?
Do you think we need to dramatically rethink high schools?
Are you a college student qualifying for work-study?
The PEACE Project is offering an exciting opportunity for future educators and other talented college students with a passion for rethinking the high school experience, especially for traditionally under-served Philadelphia students. The PEACE Project at Freire Charter School is an innovative educational program that offers new answers to the age-old question of how to best prepare high school students for their futures. Primarily serving Philadelphia?s low-income youth, PEACE is an exciting synthesis of effective and research-proven pedagogies. The core principles of PEACE form its acronym: Personalized, Entrepreneurial, Active, Collaborative, and Exploratory. We believe that learning is most effective when it is personalized, based in the real world, and derived from the student?s interests.

The following positions are available:
? PEACE Fellows
 The PEACE Project is seeking 11 PEACE Fellows to guide high school students academically by supporting them in their academic work, development of skills, and research. Our students? skills and interests vary greatly, so the PEACE Fellows will be essential in our goal of more authentically and effectively personalizing each student?s education.
 PEACE Fellows will be trained, and we?ll have ongoing times for reflection and workshops.
 Commitment is more important than experience! Fellows will work with PEACE students during certain weekdays
Availability requirement: MWF 1-4 or MWF 10-1, with strong preference for afternoon availability. It is ideal if Fellows can commit to all 9 of those hours; however, exceptional applicants with alternative schedules will also be considered.
? Writing Coaches
 The PEACE Project is seeking at least 2 work-study students with excellent writing skills to help our high school students improve their writing.
Availability Requirement: 15 hours per week ? Includes paper-reading and scheduled conferences with our students. Times are flexible.
? Internship Coaches
 The PEACE Project is seeking 2 work-study students to support our high school student internship program.
 Internship Coaches will visit students at their internship sites, hold conferences with students and their mentors to help plan meaningful projects, discuss goals and progress, and support their learning outside of the classroom. Access to a car is ideal, though not essential, and we will reimburse for gas and mileage.
Availability Requirement: Tues. and Thurs. 12-4
General Expectations for all Work-Study Students:
 Support high school students academically and personally by having conversations, learning about their interests and aspirations, and encouraging them to strive for excellence.
 Accept the challenge to learn new things: about the namesake of our school, our students, and our unique educational philosophy.
 Keep an open mind.
 Build on your own talents to help us develop our program and move closer to our vision.
 Demonstrate your commitment to PEACE students by showing up for all scheduled work hours. In the case of illness or emergency, work-study students should call to cancel in advance.
