Women’s Sports Foundation Accepting Applications for Funding Programs

The Women’s Sports Foundation, a national nonprofit, member-based organization dedicated to promoting the lifelong participation of all girls and women in sports and fitness, administers numerous grant and award programs and is currently accepting applications for the following:
The Community Action Program encourages communities to celebrate grassroots participation and support the achievements of girls and women in sports and fitness. Deadline: Ongoing
The Dorothy Harris Endowed Scholarship provides female graduate students in Physical Education, Sports Management, Sports Psychology, or Sports Sociology with a means to attend graduate school. (Deadline: December 31, 2002)
The Homophobia in Sport Project Grant provides for the development of research, community outreach, and educational programs addressing the issue of homophobia and other barriers to women’s participation in sports. (Deadline: Ongoing)
The Jump Start Program provides financial support to young women who otherwise might not be able to participate in motor sports. Funding is available to individuals, organizations, clubs, or institutions that provide automotive sport and or automotive safety-related programs for girls and women. (Deadline: December 31, 2002)
The Linda Riddle/SGMA Endowed Scholarship is for any female American citizen or legal resident who has graduated from high school and will be pursuing a full-time course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college during the 2003-2004 school year. In addition, applicants must have participated on an officially recognized high school athletic team. (Deadline: December 1, 2002)
The RYKA Women’s Fitness Grant Program provides fitness grants to support organizations and individuals that enhance women’s lives through health and fitness-related programs. Available to women aged 25 and over. (Deadline: August 15, 2002)
The Travel and Training Fund provides financial assistance to aspiring female athletes and teams for coaching, specialized training, equipmentand/or travel. (Deadline: December 31, 2002)
