White House Initiative on AA & NHPI Economic Summit
Posted by City of Philadelphia on February 7, 2023
Philadelphia was honored to have been chosen as the first of eight cities to welcome the 2023 AA and NHPI Economic Summit, hosted by The White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders.
This summit is dedicated to engaging AAPIs and building connections between government and communities while enhancing systems to support marginalized communities so they are better equipped to achieve economic equity. As a Welcoming City, our success is built on the strength and courage of immigrants.
In the past several years, this administration has taken several steps to strengthen the participation of AAPIs in our local government, including forming the Mayor’s Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs to ensure that AAPI communities have a voice in City policies. Over the last ten years, Philadelphia’s Asian population has grown by nearly 40%, and 11% of small businesses are Asian-owned.
We recognize and honor all of the contributions our AAPI population has made to our city’s social and economic vibrancy. We are committed to continuing to work together to ensure prosperity and belonging for all.
