Much research exists on the countless negative consequences of childhood obesity, yet few professionals are talking about one of the most devastating to the child: weight-based bullying. Not only does bullying have a negative impact, its effects further complicate the associated health problems. Explore the research behind this topic and learn the vital role health care professionals can play in assisting patients, providing treatment options, and helping to raise a generation that respects people of all sizes.

Angie Hasemann, RD, CSP
Angie Hasemann is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Pediatrics who holds three Bachelor’s Degrees – in Nutrition, Exercise Science, and Dietetics, from Kansas State University. She is currently working on a Master of Science Degree in Health Communication. With her passion for raising healthy eaters, she assists families to deal with the most severe cases of obesity and co-morbidities. Angie has spent her career working on the front lines of pediatric obesity treatment. Having counseled over 2,500 patients and their families in University of Virginia’s Children’s Fitness Clinic, she’s seen a wide range of pediatric obesity cases and works to share her insights with other healthcare providers.
