United Way offers webinar series on impact of stimulus on nonprofits
Passage of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act presents both challenges and opportunities for community-based organizations and others that serve and advocate on behalf of lower-income families.
Many of the Act’s funding components will be available to nonprofits. Major categories of eligible programs that have strong nonprofit applicability include arts and humanities, education and internet access, employment and job training, energy, housing and community development, human and social services and national service.
In addition to direct funding for nonprofit organizations, ARRA contains many provisions to help individuals and families who are served by nonprofits, including unemployment compensation, supplemental nutrition assistance (food stamps), and Medicaid.
In an effort to better understand how nonprofits and other community organizations can utilize the ARRA to better serve their constituencies, United Way and and the National Community Tax Coalition are partnering to offer a series of webinars that focus on the provisions of the ARRA that most directly affect community-based organizations.
The sessions will take place from April 14th through April 23rd and will feature policy experts who will explain the relevant sections of the ARRA and how it might be leveraged to enhance the work of community groups. Participants can register to participate for free, although registration must be made for each session individually.
