Webinar: Redesigning Democracy – Jul 30
Posted by American Association of Colleges and Universities on July 16, 2024
We know our democracy doesn’t work for everyone. National frustration with the US political system and with each other is causing people to turn away. Young people especially are disillusioned and unlikely to vote this fall or participate in other democratic practices. This is where higher education can intervene. Colleges and universities can help by creating opportunities for critical conversations to take place—in the classroom and on campus—about the future of democracy.
The Institute on Democracy & Higher Education‘s (IDHE) Democracy Re/Designed offers a conceptual framework and toolkit that colleges and universities can use to engage students and the campus community in envisioning a more aspirational democracy that works for everyone.
The Democracy Re/Designed toolkit includes:
- The Framework
- An Organizing and Discussion Guide
- An Institutional Self-Assessment Tool
On Tuesday, July 30, at 3:00 p.m. ET, the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) will host a free webinar featuring Nancy Thomas, AAC&U senior advisor to the president for democracy initiatives and executive director of IDHE. This webinar will provide an overview of Democracy Re/Designed. Learn how your campus can get involved and how you can use the tools to facilitate important discussions about democracy.
