What is Out of Eden Walk?
Out of Eden Walk is National Geographic Explorer Paul Salopek’s global journey, following the steps of our earliest ancestors from Africa to South America. Out of Eden Walk-Chicago brings Paul’s unique practice of “slow storytelling” home to a local level, fostering understanding and dialogue through grassroots storytelling, crowdsourced cartography, and neighborhood walks. By examining the world through the lens of slowing down to find meaning, we increase empathy and understanding as we engage in thoughtful dialogue about race, migration, gentrification, cultural preservation, and other important subjects that shape our many definitions of home.
