Webinar: Empowering Math Learners through Standards-Based Grading: Evidence and Practice – Mar 24
Posted by Philadelphia Regional Institute of STEM Educators (PRISE) on March 17, 2026
How can formative assessment move beyond informing tomorrow’s lesson to actively empowering students today? In this webinar, we will explore how Mathematics Empowerment through Standards-Based Grading (ME-SBG) builds on formative assessment research to provide students with clear, actionable feedback by standard—so they know exactly what they have mastered, what they have not yet mastered, and what to do next. Unlike approaches that focus primarily on teacher-facing data, ME-SBG centers student-facing feedback and structured reassessment for full credit after further learning, strengthening motivation and growth mindset while reducing patterns of learned helplessness.
We will share findings from our prior randomized research study demonstrating substantial gains in student mathematics achievement (research summary here) and explain how schools can participate in our current U.S. Department of Education–funded replication study, which includes professional development, ongoing PLC support, and ready-to-use implementation tools at no cost to districts.
Speaker: Dr. Steven L. Kramer, Senior Research Associate, 21PSTEM
Date and Time: Tuesday, March 24, 2026, 3:30-4:30 PM
Co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Regional Institute for STEM Educators (PRISE)and the PA Seed Ecosystem.
