Web-based Teleconferences on Service-Learning

The National Service-Learning Clearinghouse invites you to participate in the first of a series of free web-based teleconferences on service-learning in higher education. Please see details below, including how to register. Participation is limited to 40 people, so sign up today! Stay tuned for more details on the agenda. An edited transcript and handouts will be posted on the NSLC website.

Topic: Service-Learning in Higher Education: Strengthening the Community Partnership
Objectives:
Participants will be able to:
*Define service-learning in higher education and its key components, including the central role of community partnerships
*Describe successful strategies for identifying, recruiting, orienting and involving community partners in higher education service-learning
*Describe common pitfalls that can occur when working with community partners, and successful strategies for avoiding them
*Identify helpful resources for strengthening community partnerships in higher education service-learning
Primary Intended Audience:
Individuals in higher education settings who are involved in service-learning, including faculty members and service-learning coordinators (although others who are interested in the topic are certainly welcome to participate). The session is aimed at a novice audience — those who are new or recent to service-learning.
