Youth are often described as natives of the web, while many adults are simply tourists. The wild, sometimes wonderful, sometimes not, world on the web is in the palm of our students’ hands but largely out of sight from adults. Social media sites, sites for the purpose of bullying and gossip, image boards, and blogs promoting eating disorders, self-harm and mutilation and suicide are all there. Through this training, participants will:
• examine the ever-evolving web world our kids inhabit;
• learn about youth cyber behaviors, speech, and communications;
• learn methods of teaching youth to maintain their safety, create healthy, positive images, and engage civilly; resources for educating youth will be provided.
Deb will guide the group as she explores the web and participants can join in by bringing their own web devices. CORA can accommodate about 15 devices so be prepared to share with a friend or just follow Deb.
