Watch the 1619 Education Conference Highlights
Posted by Pulitzer Center on April 2, 2024
This February, Nikole Hannah-Jones kicked off the Pulitzer Center’s third annual 1619 Education Conference with opening remarks about the project’s journey so far, and the role of educators in that journey. Educators like those working in Jones’ 1619 Freedom School and those in the Pulitzer Center’s 1619 Project Education Network, who have created and implemented resources inspired by the project to share through the 1619 Education Materials Collection.
The conference celebrated and showcased the hard work of those Network members through a diverse schedule of panels, and attendees heard and learned from contributors to the creative works of The 1619 Project in keynote sessions, panels, and workshops. Nearly 700 participants connected with this year’s conference speakers, educators, and other attendees to share resources and strategies for engaging students with hard history material. Though the weekend was full of special moments, we’re excited to reflect on this year’s events with you today.
